How it works
Dividends are taxed on top of your other income. The first £500 is tax-free (Dividend Allowance), but it still uses up your tax band. From 6 April 2026 the rates are 10.75% (basic), 35.75% (higher) and 39.35% (additional). Dividends in an ISA or pension are not taxed. Over £10,000 of dividends you need to file a Self Assessment return.
Uses UK-wide dividend rates (Scotland included). Savings interest is not included. Rates last checked October 2026. Not legal, tax or financial advice. 🔒 Everything stays on your device.
